Jamie envisions a world free of depression, where every teen grows up hopeful for their bright future feeling secure and cared for.

Jamie has worked with many teens who are struggling with depression as a school counsellor in ESF schools, local schools and a teen and family therapist at St. John’s Counselling Services. With her front-line and research experience, Jamie advocates the importance of reducing stigma and making support friendly so students feel comfortable seeking help.

Jamie's doctorate research was examining the validity of school-based mental health programmes, for which she developed and studied the effectiveness of a group counselling programme that was delivered to local, international and ethnic-minority youth. The programme was proven to improve self-esteem, and reduce the feelings of depression and anxiety.

In 2012, Jamie co-created a positive youth services organisation that delivered mental health check-ups, counselling and teacher workshops to 25 schools and reached over 16,000 students across Hong Kong.

Informed by her clinical work and research about youth behaviour, she has spoken about the topic of depression, resiliency, and self-worth at TEDx, schools across Hong Kong, and the Asian Consortium.

In recognition of her on-going work to help at-risk youth, Jamie was recognised as a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Asia for Social Entrepreneurship.

    • Why use an Instant Check Tool?

It can be worrying not knowing how all your students are feeling. Especially when school is busy, it can be difficult to check-in with all your students to get a sense of how they are feeling. We've designed our instant check tool as a friendly, quick and effective way to recognise students who may need more care and attention, or to get a whole-school overview of student wellbeing.

This empowers you and other school staff members with information to help your students navigate the often difficult path of adolescence successfully.

    • The Joyful Schools Mental Health Instant Check Tool is designed for secondary schools in Hong Kong, available both in Cantonese and English.

Our tool will help you and your staff facilitate an open discussion with students about mental health and identify those students who need further support.

Connecting care to students who need it most.

Our Check-Up is delivered through an online questionnaire, accessible on a student’s mobile device that can be taken anytime, anywhere.

It offers a quick and reliable way to identify students who may be struggling with common mental health issues.

    • Report with recommendations

Schools are provided with a report that summarises screening data, patterns, and trends to inform mental health decisions.

Contact Dr. Chiu to get access to a full sample report.
